If affordable, it is suggested that cancer patient should eat turtles (e.g. toistose or sea turtle which is available from Chinese grocery stores. Do not look for any particular type, as long as it is available). Boil it in water over low heat. Discard the dregs and keep the soup in the refrigerator. Drink two spoonfuls of it warm every day between 11:00 am and 1:00 pm.
If the patient coughs drily with no phlegm, or coughs with dry and hot feeling and with yellowish phlegm after radiation therapy, he / she should eat pig's lung soup. The recipe is as follows.
Half of a pig's lung. Slice it into pieces, squeeze out the bubbles inside.
Two pears
Chuen Bui 12 grams (available from the Chinese herbal store)
A small amount of rock sugar (yellow lump of cane sugar, available from Chinese grocery store)
Put all ingredients into a clay pot, add water, and cook in low heat.
The above portion is enough for two days. Drink the soup between 3:00 am and 5:00 am.
For normal meals eat congee instead of rice. (Interchangeable with fish, pig's stomach soup, pig's liver soup). Drink light green tea instead of water.
If time is available, prepare the "ream of congee" in the following manner.
Add one bowl of rice in cooker. Add about half of the fist high of water. Cook in low heat till the upper layer thickens into paste-like condition, the lower layer almost becomes cooked rice, and the bottom layer starts to burn. The top paste-like layer is the "ream of congee".
Mix the cream of congee with little white sugar or glucose. Eat it while it is still warm. (Do not re-heat it after it gets cold. Do not leave it for next meal.) It is very nutritious and easily digestible.
