Right into the first month of the 21^st century Yi-Jing Study Center will be officially established and the first Yi-Jing symposium and seminar will be held in Toronto, Canada.

Ever since the earliest days there have been numerous learners of Yi-Jing.There have also been many Yi-Jing researchers with different opinions and interpretation.  The objective of the establishment of Yi-Jing Center and the organization of the first Yi-Jing symposium and seminar is to provide the Yi-Jing enthusiasts a place and an opportunity to meet each other and to share each other’s learning experience and personal interpretation.The common goal is to carry forward the traditional Chinese Culture.

Zhou Yi  (Yi-Jing) is the most ancient, the most authoritative, and the most famous writing of our Chinese Culture.  It is the Chinese wisdom in its crystal form.  It has gone through thousands of years of hardship and difficulties, high praises and criticism, rise and fall of nations.  And yet, it still has a lot to offer to the significant development of the Chinese Culture and world civilization in its usual quiet manner.

If one only considers Yi-Jing as merely a means of making astrologer’s comments or fortune telling, then one has but just scanty knowledge of Yi-Jing else one simply has prejudice against it.  Yi-Jing is a science.It not only ranks the first place in the ancient Chinese encyclopaedia,  “Si Ku Quan Shu” but also the first position in the authoritative collection of ancient Chinese writings the “Gu Jin Tu Shu Ji Cheng” (Collection of Ancient and Contemporary Books and Diagrams).  Moreover, it is listed as the first classical writing in the ancient classical scriptures, the “Shi San Jing Shu Zhu” (Commentaries and Footnotes on the Thirteen Books) , the “Si Shu” (The Four Books), and the “Wu Jing” (The Five Writings).  Our ancient scholars had always been very serious and cautious when dealing with learning.  The reason why they placed Yi-Jing ahead of all subjects is because Yi-Jing really is the basic theory that provides guidance to all ancient sciences and technologies.  Its universal view on things provides the guidance for the material production and social life.  Applying the basic theories of Yi-Jing in the civil way one could stabilize one’s country; in the military way one could pacify it. On the one hand, one could serve the country with it; on the other hand, one could help liberating people with it.  Its scientific value is really a treasure.  Since our ancestors have applied Yi-Jing in different territories of sciences, they have placed the Chinese people in the world’s leading positions in the scientific technologies for a long period of time.

When the modern Chinese astronomer Mr Zi Hua Liu studied in France, using the bagua (the hexagram) in Yi-Jing he managed to derive from it the density, speed, and orbit of the tenth planet in the solar system in 1940 thus resolving the problem that the astronomers had not been able to resolve in those days.  His findings had really shocked the world. 

In October 1987 when the world renowned Yi-Jing scholar Mr Yan Shen Zhang participated in the “Chinese Ancient Technologies in Retrospect” exhibition in Hong Kong,  he was invited by the famous financial circle to a dinner on October the 3rd where he applied the Yi-Jing theories and forecast precisely the movement and trend of the Hong Kong stock market and the plunge of the global stock market on October 19, 1987.  His prediction became the talk of the town for awhile. 

The secretary general of Yi-Jing Study Center in Toronto, Mr Wei Quan Long, has been applying the flexibility of the “field” theory of Yi-Jing in medicine and has cured many patients with difficult diseases like leukemia.  He has also applied the ancient Yi-Jing theories in Wall Street stock and money markets.  And, he has successfully broken a record of attaining 3175.9% return profit in foreign exchange investment.  Because of such a record he was invited to present his results in the “The First Annual China High Tech Fair”.

After Yi-Jing has been introduced to the western world, it has been valued highly by the scholars of the well developed countries.  Serious researches have been conducted.  And, it has been considered as the “Wu Zi Tian Shu” (Heavenly book with no written characters).  Based on the Hexagram in Yi-Jing the German mathematician Leibnitz invented the binary system in computer that shook up  the science & technology circle of the whole world.  Yi-Jing  had then won the name of “father of the computer”.

The numerous facts and examples from the old days to present times, from China and abroad, have proven the marvel of this extraordinary jewel of the Chinese culture.  It has made us believe even more the combination of Yi-Jing and modern science and technology will result a full bloom in wonders.
