A Message from Mayor Mel Lastman
November 5, 1999

It is a pleasure to send greetings to everyone attending the inauguration of the Toronto Yi-Jing Study Center and the First International Yi-Jing Symposium and Seminar.

Toronto is the most culturally diverse City in the world and is home to people from many different countries speaking more than 100 languages.  They have chosen to live here and share their many rich, varied cultures and traditions.  Our Chinese-Canadian community is an integral part of our City's success and has contributed immeasurably to its growth, prosperity and vitality over the years.

The Center was established to promote Chinese culture and technology and encourage the development, study and research of Yi-Jing.  The Symposium and Seminar will provide an excellent opportunity to share information and ideas, exchange experiences and expertise and meet with colleagues and friends.

On behalf of Toronto City Council and the more than 2.3 million people of our great City, I congratulate everyone whose hard work and commitment have made the Toronto Yi-Jing Study Center a reality.  To all those attending this special event, we offer our very best wishes for a most informative and enjoyable time.

Cordially,

Mel Lastman
Mayor
